Does the standard DOT in the Western states include an EKG mandatory??? Also can you do a physical and vision test before you pay
at places like Sage to make sure you are ok for license???

No EKG . As far as the vision goes , if you passed the test for your driver's license you should be o.k. . I'm not sure what you're asking about the physicals .

you can go to any clinics near you and pay for a d.o.t. physical yourself. usually runs between 50 and 100 dollars.

True , but physicians for carriers can use different discretion for things like requiring sleep apnea testing .
I almost got in trouble telling the doctor doing our physicals I regularly drink beer while at home . It doesn't matter I never drink a drop on the road . He told me drivers could be disqualified for regular alcohol use .

No, just the typical distance deal.

Is there something in particular you're worried about? Namely, something which could possibly make you a hazard to others on the road? Because, if so, I'd strongly implore you to be mindful of that and maybe consider other career options. The road's dangerous enough as is.

    bob888,
From your description of the test, that is the color blindness test. In NC you get that test. I,m partially color blind to pastel shades of red & green. The book you look at does not take partial into account. I had the same test in '65 joining the Navy. If you have this problem and can see green in nature & the red in a Robin's breast & the colors in a traffic signal, you will have no problem.

I don't even trust an EKG. I passed one with flying colors and 99% blockage. If I didn't beg for a stress test I wouldn't be posting now! :)

I'm glad the DOT don't rely on them.

It would be easier to answer what your current health problems are and if they are acceptable.
