I scraped the paint off a car a couple years back with a trailer. Why do recruiters always ask if its a dot reportable accident? Does this disqualify you from employment at most places? Mine was non DOT reportable just wondering

Fatality or injury requiring hospitalization, or at least one of the vehicles involved requiring towing as per the investigating officer, not if someone decided to have it towed because of insurance or whatever other reason.

Scratched paint wouldn't be DOT reportable.

Its mostly an insurance thing. Some company s insurance companies will not cover a driver with a DOT reportable accident. As long as there is no tow away, injury, or fatality in an accident you re fine. That s the biggest thing separating DOT reportable versus Non DOT reportable accident

But please remember that when you fill out an application and it asks, "Have you had any accidents?" and then gives room for where, when, and how much it cost, always put in all of your accidents DOT reportable or not. You may offer up DOT reportable or not at that time.

That k you so much everyone. I really thought it was DOT reportable if the cops were called which happened when I scratched her car. No tickets were given.
