I just had a DOT physical today and passed with flying colors except one thing. The doctor said she would recommend me for a DOT sleep apnea study because I'm a bit overweight. Granted I never had any apnea or falling asleep problems. What does this mean and what can I expect now?

I never had any problems falling asleep during the day either, but a sleep test cost me 10 weeks off the road, and now I have a CPAP and need a nap in the afternoon to keep from falling asleep, Good luck.

It's not DOT yet some companies are starting to require them though if you meet criteria.

Go to a different doctor and get a new DOT physical, most likely new doctor wont mention sleep apnea study. Just dont say last doctor wanted you to get sleep study. Should solve your problem, worked for me. Good Luck.

Probably going to be more and more common in the future. My company required it body mass and neck size.

If you got the 2 yr certificate you should be good to go. NO need to mention anything to your employer, just give them copy of physical.
DriverToBroker and Bayle Thank this. -
I wonder if you can take a sleep test listening to binaural tones that promote sleep. I'd try that and deep breathing exercises-- might cure sleep apnea. I haven't tried this, but looks good.
