1 company I'm looking at wants me to take a Dot Transportation test. I was wondering what that is?

I am not familiar with this test.
You will have a state drivers test, a medical exam and a drug screen.
If you find its something else, let the rest of us know about it.
Good Luck -
Some companies make you take an additional test and I believe its for their insurance. Its pretty much a basic knowledge test to see how much you know. There is also a test called the SMITH SYSTEM. A lot of companies will make you take this test also. This one involves a series of movies and written tests and then an actual road test. A lot of times the road test is actually given in a 4-wheeler instead of a big truck.

This "DOT test" you're refering to is a written basic test about trucking rules, like log books/equipment regulations/traffic laws etc. Nothing to worry about.

The Smith System is not a test but a program that teaches defensive driving for trucks. It's written by experience drivers with millions of miles of safe driving. Most drivers like the program. Some programs you go to their site and some come to yours. My company had enough for them to come to us and we use the system everyday of the year. The drivers are evaluated by the driver trainer once a quarter to make sure they know the system and are using it in their daily driving habits. The driver trainers go off a few times a year to Smith Training to certify them as instructors for the company. I know the company has spent a lot of money on the program and the numbers have proven the program works.
If your company has taken some of the material from that program and use it as a test then they are ahead in safety than most companies. I would bet your company has drivers that stay and eventually retire from there.
