How far do you have to depress the clutch pedal (beyond free play) when double clutching your shifts? I seem to be botching that deal up and I am not sure if I am not depressing the pedal enough.
Thanks

DOuble-Clutching? if you use the clutch, only use it for lever shifts; rocker shifts are made by releasing the accelerator and reapplying throttle. This will do until you learn to float.

whats a clutch

double clutch?.......
I might of did that once in 1993 in school just to see what it was like.......Chubby Fly Thanks this. -
You don't double clutch a 13. You use that clutch to get moving. Maybe a little in 3-4-5 but after that you float it.

The school I went to in '91 required us to d.c., but after I got out my first real trainer showed me how to float. That's all she wrote since then.
I've never personally worn out a clutch or a clutch brake. Longest I've been assigned the same truck was 4 years. -
Might surprise you, but even some Very Experienced drivers use the clutch on every shift. Not everyone floats......
Odin's Rabid Dog Thanks this. -
I know good drivers who do it different ways. Just don't use the clutch much myself. My students would always get pretty much the same treatment from me, and I'd encourage them to find their most comfortable groove (one that was easiest on my truck, preferably), and some students did better with the clutch.
To each their own, dontcha know? -
all i use the clutch for is to start stop and pull it out of gear for a downshift
