thank you! I see safety equipment can extend past 8’5”. Such as mirrors. However is a stake pocket considered safety equipment? And each state has their own regs. I feel like you need a law degree to be a trucker. LOL

most likely I won’t run into an issue but I seem to find the DOT officers that hold a rule book and tape measure.

    Nice rig!

maybe I should do some D rings and call it good?

I just spoke to the Colorado scale house and they said you cannot exceed 8 foot 6 inches. I would need an oversized permit to go beyond that. including stake pockets or a rub rail.

D rings might be okay but I would probably still be about 8 foot 7 inches. Might be able to get away with that but could still get in trouble.

I’ll use D rings and existing chain pullouts for equipment securement.

With hay, is it legal to attach your strap to the bottom rail? I would assume so. I’ve just never done it that way. Like in this picture.

Yes as long as that rail is rated for securement . Thats how i attach my straps to my flatbed. There should be a sticker/plate on ur trailer somewhere showing u what the different securement points on your trailer are rated for

thank you!!! I don’t see anything on this trailer. Then again it’s been painted recently. Always a little sketchy buying something from Ritchie Brothers.

I would assume that rail is rated for securement. It’s all steel and pretty thick.

There are some trucks I’ve seen running around this area with that type of trailer. I’ve seen them loaded with large tall wooden crates like the ones the bed bugs and storage warehouses use. Not sure what is in them. I’ve also seen them with the small and medium size prefab storage sheds like you see at lowes and home depot parking lots for sale.
