Good afternoon, I am trying to find out what the legal rules are in British Columbia Canada when double stacking Pallets in a Dry Van. Is it a legal requirement to use "Load Bars" (those 4X4" types) or not. My Employer tends to be very "frugal" definitely not spending any Money unless absolutely necessary. So far I have been using only Load Straps. Also used at times what are called Load Lock (basically 2 Tubes sliding to expand) but I think they are almost the same as useless to secure a Load properly especially when double stacking heavy Pallets. Thanks in advance for knowledge based advice ! W.T.K.
The load should be properly secured. Period. You're the one responsible for ensuring that's taken care of. If you don't think it's safe then don't move the load.
Typically Pallets are Animal Feed in Pellet form in Paper Sacks, other Pallets may have Sacks of Fertilizer. Thanks - W.T.K.
lol. This is a rollover waiting to happen. That type of product can shift pretty easy. How high are we talking, and are both shrink wrapped together?
Rollover not likely on good Roads if the Load cant shift plus one considers the curves carefully. I pulled Tankers for about 15 Winters in BC & AB, much more dicey in the Mountains especially when not fully loaded and/or on some Oilfield Roads, never once went over. How high you ask, as far as the Door allows pretty well right to the Top. Thanks -W.T.K.
Yes load bars or straps should be used even if the load isn’t double stacked. According to dot the rear doors of a dry van or reefer don’t count as load securement and you can actually be fined by dot for unsecured load if you’re caught in an inspection . I would be worried if the company is that cheap they can’t even buy load bars . What else are they cheaping out on
Not particularly easy to do if we’re talking about one of those places where drivers aren’t allowed on the dock.
I personally would NOT want that product double stacked, but I’m unaware of any laws against it aside from perhaps those that may pertain to hazardous materials.
