Just keep in mind switching to super singles is not so clear cut as just swapping 8 dials for 4 singles, torqing the lug nuts, then driving on your merry way to extra profits. Offset is important. If you don't consider this you might have expensive bearing failures in your future. The axle housings of tractors and offsets of trailer tandems with super singles that come that way from the factory are wider than duals. There is or was someone in classifieds with a set of supersingles for sale though and I believe they are in AZ.

Yeah, 0 offset wheels or 2" offset mounted backwards will work as retrofit. As for the used sets, there is a place in west memphis selling hundreds of trailer wheel/tire packages, and another place in springfield, MO selling a bunch of tires. The problem I've had with private parties is they usually have tires with terrible rolling resistance (even though wide singles).

Don't necessarily need to check air to spot a flat.. that's pretty daarn easy.. I'm guilty of two actions .. not draining the air tanks on the trailer and rolling it to check the down side of the tires other than this.. I have no problems.. the company requires 110 I purchased the air gauge from them.. I'm ok with my inspections otherwise

okay, okay. You'd be the first company driver I've ever met that finds a flat tire. Usually it's either the blow out or the DOT that tells him.

On the recaps, I've found for half the money they last half as long, given everything else is right (known casings, proper care, etc). So, even when everything is right, I'm still paying 2x to get them changed, along with the second time wasted at the tire shop, at a minimum. For me, the savings on the purchase of caps just didn't work out.

Far as reliability, caps are less. Not just repeating the recap hate here. Reconstructing a tire is an opportunity to introduce defects, along with re-using a casing. They're going to be less reliable. You can minimize that with proper care, but that increased risk doesn't altogether vanish. All it takes is one $500 road service call and/or a missed load opportunity due to an extra tire shop visit, and the savings are gone.

Might be the way to go for some operations. Just not mine.

I've sure found my share of them. It's a wonder some of my coworkers can even find their way to work in the morning without a map.
