Every thread about this you confuse the meal allowance and actual per diem. The meal allowance for employees (not just commercial drivers) went away with the tax changes. Receiving a portion of your wages as non taxed per diem is still allowed and still used by many to lower their taxable income.

Owner operators have been claiming it the whole time.
I believe you can still claim it, but the basic deduction is higher than you’d get if you itemized. So there is no point in claiming it.
I may be wrong on the second part. So don’t take that as gospel. -
W2 Employees can no longer claim non-reimbursed business expenses. That’s why the standard deduction doubled.ElmerFudpucker Thanks this.
