It’s easier to teach everyone coming out of 3 weeks of school to never use the engine brake on snow than it is to teach them that they actually have to learn about their truck and how it reacts based on weight, snow conditions, temperature, etc. All of that comes from experience. Experience comes from scaring yourself once in a while. I’ve had the Jakes lock up coming down Lost Trail and Lolo before, but you have to be fast and not panic and get your foot in the throttle to stop the slide. And then get slowed back down.
Telling someone “never” is the easy way out and people that live by that won’t learn what can actually be done.

you having an old man moment heavy? Even the 351 M code had 11:1 compression, right on the verge of requiring 93 or higher. Most of the 351s built had 8:1-9.5:1 from the factory.

YEs sir, just a touch, I was reevaluating engines, three different ones. None of them reached that high in compresson on gasoline.
I will discard that post and try again later tonight or tomorrow when there is a rest period put in.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
You are absolutely correct. Schools, trainers, and trucking companies try to mitigate risk by teaching the least risk methods. The end result is that drivers learn to play the white keys on the piano.
"Don't touch those black keys!"
If you want to become a true professional, you need to learn to play the whole keyboard. That includes the black keys. The white keys only crowd can play Chopsticks to beat the band. The whole keyboard crowd can play Beethoven or Mozart.
IN ORDER TO LEARN THE ENTIRE KEYBOARD YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE. That's the essence of learning ANY difficult skill set.Cattleman84, Long FLD, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Oh Lawdy, are there HOS rules for the forum? I'm busted.Cattleman84 and x1Heavy Thank this.

Your goal isn't to keep pace with anyone else, but to not slide. Like most "impossible questions" the premise is wrong. Why do you have to keep going 40-55 mph on a snowy hill or in heavy rain? Nobody gives awards for fastest slide down a hill unless you are in The Olympics.Bigfish59, MBAngel, Cattleman84 and 3 others Thank this.

I believe Darwin hands out trophies and metals. No participation trophies either, only the special few get those......tscottme, Cattleman84 and Lepton1 Thank this.
