DPF Engine Light

    It was extremely hot today but its the first time I have seen the engine light come on .. Looking in the manual it says: Illuminates when an engine emissions failure has occurred. The vehicle can be safely driven but should be serviced to correct the problem. The situation should not be considered an emergency. In some cases, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp will activate in conjunction with the High Exhaust Temperature. which it did come on and went back out ... I have been reading there are some additives that can clean out the DPF filter to fix the situation ... what is everyone's suggestion here ... is it a $3000 repair ... how long can I drive it this way ... are there products out there for this and if so what is the best or what does everyone suggest

    There's the STP DPF cleaner at most truckstops, maybe walmarts, about $60 for a quart, it works. Also read up on the Hotshot brand additives, I'm read good reviews on that stuff, reasonable prices. There's others, like Pittsburgh Power stuff, it works but its real pricey. Similar stuff I can't think of, search for reviews on youtube, lotta truckers do reviews on stuff. Treat your fuel regularly too, I'd try the Hotshot stuff, think I've seen at walmart too, but seen at truck stops if in a bind.

    Don't waste any money on snake oil additives. The engine light can be from a lot of things other than the DPF. Your next step is to see what the code was and trouble shoot from there.
