1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

It's that way on St. Thomas too. My hubby grew up there, and told me that if we ever visit the island, he refuses to let me drive down there. Something about the laid back island attitude that carries over into driving and my lack of patience I think.:biggrin_25519:

Here in europe we have a speedlimit for trucks of 80km/h and they have an speedlimiter set on 90km/h. All of the trucks have an tachograph. It's the blackbox of the truck. It registrates the speed, drivingtime, resttime and the driving distance and the drivers name. It works with and chipcard. If you past the max driving time the display in the dash gives an warning that you have to stop and take a rest. 'There is also an max lenght of whole truck. That's why the cabs are short and most trucks have an cabover for a max space for the freigth. only in the Netherlands it is allowed to drive with 2 trailers as an roadtrain.

Without a European passport you will have trouble getting employment. There are laws that say that jobs have to be offered to EU citizens first, and then to others if they cannot find anyone.
And most companies prefer Eastern European drivers becuase they seem to run so cheap . . . .

By law a company have to pay everyone not below the € 1.435,20. a month. For citizens from eastern europe outside the eu it is very difficult to get a yob in the EU. Also fore citizens from the midlle-east, africa en azia (not japan and S Korea) For those citizens there is an immigration stop and they are not alowed to work here.

An American can only get a job in Europe if the employer can prove that they tried to recruit EU nationals first, but could not find anyone suitably qualified for the job.

That works if you are a specialist, maybe a concert pianist, or a specialist research doctor, or something, but it doesn't help drivers. There are already thousands with LGV and HGV, nobody is going to pay for a CDL driver to retrain for a European certificate.
