Hey hey hey. This thread is about drive tires on the steer axle. Lol. No patches no recaps on steers. I don’t see why even patch up when god knows where you’ll be when that baby blows. Buttttt. Brand new drive tires on steers now that has me puzzled.

it is unfair to compare cross - dressers to drive tires on a steer axle... I was just saying that it could not be serious - the drives tires on steers. LOL. Peace!

What are the pros and cons of having drive tires on your steer axle

Caps are actually legal on the steer axle of trucks, but who would want them. I worked on a cabover that threw the cap on one, it bent his floorboard up so far and had the drivers seat leaning so much he was huddled over the steering wheel trying to drive. lol

It is legal to patch them, but most tire shops won't, they do not want the liability. I patched a bridgestone steer in a pinch once up here in Alaska and ran it back to NM before I changed it, no problem.

Iirc, steer tires are actually built a little different from trailer or drive tires. They do make, and some guys up here run them , some rugged looking lug steer tires.

Bad idea drives have LESS traction in wet weather . Also steer tires are designed to take the side flexing from turning drive tires aren’t .. I’d bet they run much hotter than a steer tire due to carrying more weight than in the drive position

I agree. But I was just wondering if it is in fact against the law.
