I’ve never had to patch one, but I wouldn’t loose any sleep over it if I have to. I have never had a patch fail on a drive or trailer tire.

Drove a long logger & a dump truck with some knarly traction tires on the steer axle. Hooked up some in corners on pavement.
Final Drive and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I know a couple of guys brought up recaps on the steer axle. UPS does that with package cars and I never drive one that didn't shake like a dog ####ting razor blades. They try to keep them on the trucks right around the building so they typically don't drive as fast that way when they are allowed to buy new tires occasionally they can use them o. The trucks that see highway use.

A steer axle tire with a puncture repair in the crown area that is 3/8 inch or less in diameter can be repaired using a rubber stem and a repair unit. If the injury is larger than that or in the shoulder or sidewall, the tire can be repaired with a section repair but it cannot be returned to the steer axle.
A new virgin steer tire can fail just as easily as a used or repaired tire.
A friend of mine bought two brand new Bridgestone R282 steer tires six years ago and they both blew up within two weeks of each other, and they were only a couple of months old.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I’m going to revive this thread.
I got a set of Bridgestone M844’s 445/65r22.5
brand new tires for Chinese prices and wondering how bad it would be to throw them on the front steer of truck?!
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Bad very bad, Lol. I guess it depends on whether they’re rated all positions. Where’d you find the deal at on the Bridgestones?

Everything I see online indicates its a trailer tire.
