Are you really naive enough to think hiring practices of your company plays no part in incidents like these? You might trade up to a thicker skin; if'n your planning on hanging around...

Well hammer and batman.....knight driver is right in my opinion. I don't care how tight your hiring process is you will NEVER catch every bad driver. Quickway carriers has some of the highest standards around and still some slip through from time to time.....even the ultimate job (walmart) has a bad apple or two. So what I'm sayin is.....your argument doesn't hold water.

Personally, calling someone names is small minded in my view.

But I agree with your point.

Its the whole "us vs. them" thing again. When you see ppl preach about sticking together, then theyh don't live it...drives me up the wall.

I see ppl do dumb things in company trucks and non-company trucks....

You two are missing the point. While I won't go as far as bw9, the name on the door has a direct correlation to the frequency of incidents like this one. This kind of stuff happens to inexperienced, overwhelmed drivers. And those drivers are more likely to be working for a bottom-feeder. It's not a slam on the drivers who work for these carriers, it's an indictment of a segment of our industry that chews up good people like so much hamburger, crushing dreams and effectively blacklisting people for incidents they were unprepared to deal with.

You can't take someone fresh from school, put them with someone with scant months more experience, and expect the resulting 'driver' to be capable of operating on their own. There will be rare exceptions, but the vast majority of drivers with less than 5 years experience have no business training anyone! And yet the BFI megafleets are filled with trainers that could dig 10 layers down and not find a trainer with that experience. The blind leading the blind is a more than apt parable! With this vast pool of trainees, training trainees, how can you expect anything but the chaos of the BFI's operations?

Aaaand then, we have Watkins n Sheppard....who takes a brand new CDL school graduate, runs him or her through a 10-day orientation and then turns them loose.

Not too many slam their methods, some even praise them. I'm sure W/S is not the only company to do this. Seems to me, the companies that actually send new people out with someone else are the ones being called "bottom feeders" while companies with no training at all are praised and revered.

    Go figure.
