A friend works at another company that has them. His dies after 4 hours. At least he can idle the truck, but they complain. They are going back to APU's.

So you drivers with experience at the big companies that take inexperienced drivers like Swift or Stevens, are there any of the bigs that are much better than others concerning this topic?

Go with a company that has APU's.
Melton Truck Lines has APU's & a terminal in Dallas. Their website says 2 months experience required, but ignore that; they hire right out of CDL school.

System Transport has APU's, hires new CDL grads. & has a terminal in Laredo.

There are several others, but I mention those two because you will make very good annual pay also. These two companies aren't so called "starter companies."

Your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks. I will definitely look into these two.

the battery powered apu's are a cheaper version of a normal apu. basically you have extra batterys to run them and dependinlg on where the temp is set is how long of a runtime you have. weak batterys will give you around 4 hrs of power then everything shuts off to give you the ability to start the truck up. new batterys fully charged are supposed to give you 10 hrs set at about 74 degrees or the middle of the bar graph thing on low speed fan.
