You probably won’t like it but I agree with them. It isn’t difficult to keep your speed at 70 or below down hills and you aren’t doing anything unsafe in doing so. Even on very steep grades with heavy loads, just choose the right gear with the engine brake on, and use the brakes sparingly. I never go over 70 and have no one watching me, it’s just the right thing to do. I had a guy working for me for a little while and I told him the same thing, do not go over 70. My ELDs can tell me maximum speed and I saw he had a few 78s in there. I chewed him a little over it and it didn’t happen again. Trucks traveling over 70 mph is dangerous.
I don’t like that there are so many drivers obsessed with the speed limits and speed in general. I drive 60 everywhere I go, even when I was a company driver, and it has never hurt my ability to make money. Practice patience, sit back, and cruise, you’ll be less stressed out and you can “live in your lane” as the Smith System says.
Those cameras substantially reduce insurance costs by removing the insurance provider from the equation in the event the accident was attributed to the driver’s negligence. It saves the insurance company lots of money by also showing, definitely, it was the 4wheelers fault. I have one of these event based cameras in my truck now. It’s a good business decision for carriers to put these in their trucks.

once you get 1 year or so in and are with a " real" company, not a trainer type. then you'll see what trucking can be like.

I've never been with one those companies, so I can't know all about them, just what I've heard drivers tell over the past 35 yrs, as a over the road driver.

I've enjoyed it a lot more than the office job I had.

now, I'm retiring and sit here and be a "know it all", old fart,.lol

    lol, being safe isn't cool!

So keep it around 70 instead.
If it's that hard to keep it at 70 to 75 what do you think is going to happen if you need to stop? Ever heard the term 'going nowhere fast'?

Getting the jake on a bit earlier will keep you below your threshold.

But just remember they have probably another half dozen nit picky things they can ding you on that are triggered by Gs and brake application pressure and forward proximity, and also realize that your fleet is full of snitches.
