Okay......point made , but try this question: why dont four wheelers get all the restrictive devices and monitors? Arent they always involved in incidents ? Arent the same insurance underwriters covering them? Wheres the four wheelers certificate of completed training? I dont wanna hijack thread.....Ive just always found it peculiar........

@EternalHopez I drove for Swift and was a trainer at Swift when the company trucks were governed at 62 mph. Overspeed was anything over 67 mph, even downhill. Three of those and you're fired. One incident of 71 mph and you're fired.

I know they increased the governed speed to 65 mph, so I don't know their definitions of overspeed now, but YOU should. That's your job to know the parameters of the company you drive for. It doesn't matter whether YOU think the parameters are at the ninth level of idiocy, just stay within the boundaries.

My own truck is ungoverned. I don't try to be the fastest on the road, especially in small towns, hills, curves, etc. OFTEN I am asked to drive customer trucks that are governed as little as 55 mph or even require you to drive at least 5 mph under posted speed limits. Talk about idiocy! I think I overheard their safety guy all giddy about a new cattle prod in the shape of a dildo they were going to install on the driver's seat.

It doesn't matter. If I accept the responsibility to drive a customer's truck I accept the responsibility to drive it the way they want. It's no big deal.

Besides, you SHOULD ALSO be aware that those internal safety points impact your quarterly bonus. Your goal should be to get to Platinum status asap. I had trainees do it within three months. If you continue to rack up points you are stealing money from your paycheck.

This isnt a hard industry to figure out if you have common sense. But I do understand that experience does play a factor. I also know that I'm ignorant about a lot of things and situations that I could possibly run into. But don't disrespect me. I'm not one for disrespect.

That’s simple. Truck drivers are in the employ or under authority of others. Motorists are just driving around at their leisure. It goes much deeper then that but that’s where it all begins

    Lepton1 and buddyd157 Thank this.

They have those cameras because your company can't drive across the truck stop without crashing into something.

The DOT mandates that companies do more, and more safety type features when there safety score goes so high, it's the only way the can keep their operating credential.
