Maverick sounds like a great company to work for and wanted to know a few questions about their company. Im a driver looking for a new company because Im not doing well with the company Iam with now. I was interested in driving reefer for them. What are the miles do solo drivers average in a week? Will I just go thru orientation and get hired? As for reefer what about their pay scale? would I get home 3-4 weeks out at a time? On hometime where would I park my truck, and do their trucks have apu installed? What trucks do they currently have in their fleet and how new are they? At what speed are their trucks governed at? Do they treat their drivers good and also would it be a good company to train at? Wanted to know somethings about their lease programs to.

What are the miles do solo drivers average in a week? I'm in reefer (call it TCD in training, they hate the word reefer lol). I average 2100 - 2500 miles a week, but I've had several weeks where I got over 3000.

Will I just go thru orientation and get hired? For TCD, you'll go through the standard orientation which I think is 5 days, followed by a couple days of specialized training for operating the unit and all that.

As for reefer what about their pay scale? An experienced driver (more than 1 year OTR) will start out at around .40 - .42 per mile. Less than 1 year usually starts at .35 cents per mile. 3 cent raise at 3 months, 5 cent raise at 6 months.

would I get home 3-4 weeks out at a time? Minimum out time is 2 weeks for TYCD with 2 days off. You can stay out as long as you like, getting 1 day off for every week you're out. I am on home time now after being out for 6 weeks, and I'm off for 6 days.

On hometime where would I park my truck, Your truck must be parked in a legal parking spot designated for a truck. Any truck stop is good, or if you can park at your house that is fine too. Be aware that you CANNOT drop your trailer anywhere except a Maverick terminal - they are adamant about that.

and do their trucks have apu installed? All of the trucks 2010 or newer have what they call EPUs - they are not a TriPak, and don't have their own engine. They run off of a separate set of batteries and typically give you enough power for 10 to 12 hours to run the A/C. If you run out of power, idling the truck for about an hour will recharge the batteries.

What trucks do they currently have in their fleet and how new are they? They have a few 2007 trucks, but those are in flatbed and glass only. All TCD trucks are 2010 or newer Freightliner Cascadias. What truck you're assigned just depends on what they have available. I do know that they are phasing out all trucks older than 2011 and replacing them with 2013 models. I am a brand new CDL holder and was given a 2012 model with 21 miles on it when I went solo. All of their trucks are auto shift with a manual option if you want to use it, but no clutch pedal.

At what speed are their trucks governed at? All TCD trucks max out at 65 mph because TCD goes to Canada, and they have to be set no higher than 65. Your max speed is tied to your fuel mileage - if you drop below 6.0 mpg your speed will drop to 62 until you gain mileage back. None of their trucks go slower than 62.

Do they treat their drivers good and also would it be a good company to train at? I really have no complaints, I'm treated very well. Naturally I've argued with my FM and the CSRs a couple times over things, but that's normal. They treat their drivers very well in my opinion.

Wanted to know somethings about their lease programs to. I don't know much about the Mav IC (independent contractor) division, but I don't believe you're eligible for it until you've been a company driver for at least a year.

Only TCD goes to Canada? No glass or flatbed?

I was under the impression that the Glass division spent a fair amount of time in Canada. That's why I didn't join Maverick in the past, due to the fact I was only in their hiring area for Glass division, but not regular flatbed. I see on their hiring map that this has changed, and am considering applying with them next year.
