Oversized driver was completely in the wrong on this one. Pilot car or not, as soon as he saw the truck coming up on his left, he should have centerlined the roadway so he could clear the bridge supports.

Court says trucking company to blame for bridge collapse -- even though they had a permit

MY job, as I understand it, is to:
Protect the road (other drivers and static structures) from the load and to protect the load from the road. You cant just bebop down the road without a care hauling OD. It doesn't matter if you hang over 2" or 4', whether you're 13'7" or 15'+.

Mullen is one of the big name HH outfits in Alberta. Usually their guys are top notch operators.

Oh, this could get ugly. Sounds like the oversize was being passed by this other truck and cut him off. Courts so plugged up, it took 7 years. This one is as rotten as it gets.

Short of that... If this idiot absolutely could not be avoided from getting alongside him (debatable), he should have gotten on the brakes.

well, i do not know that company, as i never heard of them. but given the way of just hiring anyone with a pulse, the past couple of decades (at least) i'd say someone screwed up.

Commie Washington was probably looking for a scapegoat to rebuild the bridge.

Yeah, if he knew the left lane was the only way, why was he hanging in the right lane, and where was the pilot car again? I doubt she'll be piloting anything but a shopping cart.

They are a huge company. Mullen Group owns well over a dozen companies.
    Overview | Mullen Group

I was a bit shocked when I heard it happen because they're usually on the ball with these types of moves. I was told back in the boom they had the monopoly on OD freight up to the oilsands.

Talking on the phone to her husband, according to the article. Can't allow emotions to distract you from what you're doing out here.
