Driver Killed In Truck Fire In Alabama

####. Hard to imagine sleeping and then randomly truck goes up in flames at 3am.
How does that even happen?

 

I don't know how this driver's truck caught fire, but don't use open flames in the truck. If you've ever knocked over your coffee cup, imagine knocking over a camping stove next to your bed.

 

Peterbilt 386..maybe 2011 vintage like I used to drive.

 

Regen would be my first guess. Otherwise maybe a slipping belt / A/C compressor clutch / fan clutch, ruptured fluid line that sprayed the turbo housing, or loose electric connection.

 

A buddy who does local was using a company sleeper truck to do 2 regional runs after his first run. He ran home in his pick up so he started bunk heater to keep cab warm when he was on his way back he got a call from his boss saying the firefighters wanted to know how to shut his truck off.. somehow truck started when bunk heater caused a interior fire he ended up disconnecting battery to shut it off . Electrical gremlins do strange things.. I’ve had a alternator catch fire on a Mazda GLC winter beater I had it burnt through the firewall .

 

I hate to hear this. R.I.P. driver and condolences to his family.
I never knew this until I started driving and seen it first hand-when a vehicle catches on fire, the whole #### thing burns up in a split second!
