It's hard to quantify which is higher on the totem pole. If i had to make such a call, id base it solely on who was easier to replace. So which is easier to find? An average driver or an average dispatcher? I've never tried to hire a dispatcher, but i have hired drivers, and honestly...they are falling out of the skies. One add gets you hundreds of calls. Good thing too cause a out of a hundred maybe one is barely worth their pay.
Driver leader angry with me because I declined running reefer

Yes drivers may be a dime a dozen, but why is it a "quality" driver with a perfectly clean record, that actually dresses looks and acts in a professional manner is treated no different, or compensated any better than the sweat pants, flip flop wearing Neanderthal? Shows you how much you actually are appreciated at said megaToomanybikes and AtticusRoad Thank this.

We're having them come and go so fast around here anymore that I can't keep up with it.
Nobody wants to work.spyder7723 Thanks this. -
Trump is going to have zero effect on the oil prices, more than any other commodity Oil is supply and demand driven.
Cut the supply, and prices rise. OPEC started a price waw to drive down US Production and it worked. The end result however is it is hurting them to so they just announced production cut backs and that is what will bring back the oilfield work. -
I agree, you have to weed through a dozen drivers, before you find one good one( but that seems to be all employees anymore). I don't think one is higher up the pole than the other though. ( all things being equal) I have always said people worked with me and not for me. I just personally don't like putting false titles on things. Are drivers going to be called truck leaders? Or maybe a freight manager? I think it's silly, and gives people a false sense power, just to inflate their ego. (Cause you'd rather be a leader than a dispatcher) It also makes new drivers think that it really matter if they are upset because they disobey or couldn't be pressured by said "leader"

@KMac is generally correct when he says Trump will have zero effect on oil prices. I do think his policies will have an indirect effect though. The days of $150 a barrel Oil prices are over for a long time to come. With this country having the Natural Gas supplies it has coupled with the Oil shale industry there is a tipping point where driving up prices by cutting production won't work anymore. I was reading yesterday where it was reported that these OPEC cuts will result in a lot of cheating by the Various Governments that make up OPEC and some of the non OPEC countries. This is what will have the largest effect on prices, not for good or bad Trump.
Edited to add: The reciprocal is also true. The current President is NOT directly responsible for the lower Oil prices over the last few years.Last edited: Dec 23, 2016

I think the only reason the larger fleets use these terms is because the term dispatcher has such a negative stigma attached to it, it gets almost as bad an initial reaction as the word broker.
Also, the traditional dispatcher doesn't even exist at the big carriers. Dispatchers used to do so much more than they do today. Today the dispatcher that a driver talks to on a regular basis is little more than a point of contact for him. They don't decide what loads the driver gets or make appointments or anything like that, all they do is relay information to the driver. -
Dispatchers are always gonna have their skivvies in a twist about something. Give it 5 minutes and your refusal to run reefer will be forgotten.

I suppose, but still don't much care for the terms. But I guess no one asked me.
