Hi I am a former OTR truck driver with 1 million+ miles and 12 years driving experience. I have been a diesel mechanic for last 8 years and want to get back to what I love which is driving. It hurts me to say everyone is telling me I would be better off WITHOUT already having CDLs, can't believe that. Now I am told I need to find a 120 hour re-fresher course near me in order to get recent experience so that someone will hire me. I have called England, PAM, Knight and they have all said the same thing. Can anyone out there help point me in the right direction. Thanks

    Chinatown Thanks this.

I know Albany Tech in Albany GA does one......can't remember what the cost is, but I do remember it was real reasonable. If that"s not an option, call around to other tech schools in your area.

A lot has changed in 8 years. If you know who you want to work for, ask them if they require a refresher or complete CDL course.

I know central in Conley, GA will allow you to attempt to do a road test and if you pass all you have to do is go with a trainer for 5 weeks. I know Watkins Shepard will put you through a 10 day course and send you out on your own after that (only bad part is they do a lot of driver unload of furniture). I'm in the same boat as you, and this is what I've been told by their company recruiters

This is correct ! Our terroristic govt is offering "fiat money credits" to put everyone thru "drive school" first . . .

    EXPERIENCE is Irrelevant

. . . they prefer new people in debt, who are more eager to slave for "truck stop peanuts".

    lol ANY OTHER QUESTIONS??
