I guess writing out a DVIR is actually doing DVI now.
And on a post trip if defects are found they are fixed while you are in the bunk. No on duty time at all.
For you cross border drivers you better have an inspection report filled out and signed at the start of the day.

So at Stevens we do at least a 5 minute Pre-Trip and 30 minute post-trip. Which is sort of the opposite of normal but makes sense. In the morning check lights, tires and fluids. At end of the day do the in depth inspection.
For those who log the minimum time. Imagine this scenario. You are hit by a car. You're not at fault. But some lawyer gets a hold of your logs. Which we know they'll do. See's you always log 15 minutes for your PTI. Then they ask you to do it. We all know that a real PTI will be at least 40+ minutes. They'll then show negligence on your part as well as you shouldn't have been there to get hit if you had really done it. You'll also show you've falsified logs.
Just do your inspections and log it legal. It's your CDL you're protecting. Your dm isn't driving that truck. If they push. "Let's get safety on the call." They'll back down.tarmadilo Thanks this. -

There's nothing wrong with being thorough, but spending a bunch of time to to say you did is pretty much the definition of wasting time.God prefers Diesels, kemosabi49 and InTooDeep Thank this. -
