Driver responsibility with the cleanliness of issued trucks?

You need to use common sense. Being paranoid will get you nothing but ulcers. There is a point when there is too much "security." OTOH, you must have some checks and balances, or you will soon be out of business.

 

Agreed. I will have to figure out a system as I go.

 

its simple
tell them to keep it clean inside and out no questions asked you are the boss you sign the checks.
pay for their time for the outside not the inside,you are not the mommy...if i opened the door and shet fell out i would call them and say get your az down here and clean it or find another job at the mess factory and i would expect this from any employer. i could not imagine embarrassing an employer or being embarrassed by a employee for not taking care of the one thing that makes the doughnuts.clean your work space or else...

 

I worked for a guy not to long ago that was very particular about his trucks. You were expected to keep truck clean inside and out, he payed two washes a month at beacon, and wanted you to wash it at the yard the other two weekends.(No Pay) when passing through, you were to come to the yard, Service the truck (Oil change, grease, Replace tires, etc.) he would look it over with a fine tooth comb, inside and out, if there was a problem, he and I would get it fixed.(No Pay) Then you may have to be 7-800 miles away the next morning, and he would be upset if you were late!! LOL. But I have to say his equipment, all 379 exhds from 89-2009 were top-notch. And It was one of the best jobs I've ever had.

 

That is what I am thinking, but not the way I want to come across to my drivers.

 

I to had to had to sit with no pay and wait for my issued truck to be serviced and or repiared. I also had to clean it with out being paid. But hell, I was making $1,200 to $1,500 a week and home on weekends. So I figured it was worth it. I think to an extent, making my drivers take care of the trucks will help weed out the ones I do not want for long term.

 

sooner or later you are going to come across this way,might as well make it sooner than later otherwise you will get alot of DUH I DID NOT KNOW and start doubting yourself as a owner not a leader
i would rather know up front what is expected of me as a driver for YOU right now right away or else i am going to loose respect for you as an employer if you expect me to read your mind...

 

I guess you can call me one of those company yes men if you want. But I feel that your out there representing your copany. You and your truck are the first thing customers see and a good first impression is a lasting impression. I know it is hard to a truck spottless when you are running constantly,but when you have a layover some where then you can tidy up and make it look decent. Plus the public will see that you yourself take pride in your eguipment.

 

I worded that incorrectly. I do plan to let it be known that I expect my equipment to be clean. That will be part of the reverse interview. I am just saying I do not want to come across as a jerk in order to get it done. I want my drivers to want to do it because I am good to them.

 

That is exactly my point. I do not know why so many people thought I meant they had to spend a lot of their off time detailing the truck. I just want my drivers and my trucks to portray a good image in front of our customers.
