"As for the Trump comment it was facetious"

So then why make it? Just to get people riled up? Obama had 8 years to better the economy, it really hasn't happen, people are disgruntled that wages have fallen FAR behind the COL. Trump hasn't even been in office a month, there is no possible comparison there.

"Though we're more likely to hear about these things in this information age I don't think society has fallen as far as many believe".

I completely disagree, I think society is falling of a cliff, and that is just from what I have personally witnessed in my 30 years OTR. Funny, I can't remember guys pissin the fuel island or taking a #### in the parking lot in the 80's.

so i guess your one of'em that does s he pleases and screw everyone else? everyone talks about the victim. what about the other driver? how many times over the years had he been nice about it & maybe got a whoopin a time or two? turning the other cheek does no good with these jerks. maybe a few gunfights would make them think, maybe i should give my fellow drivers some respect. jmo

If he could not fight he should not getting to arguments. Also I don't what start the fight but he could call the cops. Or let truck stop stuff now. Now he took human life and even if it was legal shooting there is going to be consequence for him. It is always easer to walk away if you can't take whipping like man.

Wrong comparison. Trump has been all over the news for more than a year and a half over reacting to the smallest criticism.

A trucker shoots another driver at a Pilot and there's a pretty good chance there was an over reaction involved.

Can you blame the juvenile attitude of Trump for this, of course not. Can you blame the economy, of course not.

People's basic values and ways of dealing with adversity are learned young, influenced by the environment they live in. Nothing Trump or Obama did led to the shooting.

Some of us have no desire to fight, even if we have the ability. Very rarely is there ever a fight in which one side walks away unscathed after beating the other into submission...and I don't care to take any more punches in my life. Lord knows I took enough growing up from my old man, that chances are good if you hit me with your best shot all I'd do is laugh in your face and ask if that was all you had. What does that prove? Not a #### thing. Winning a fight doesn't show you were in the right and the other guy was wrong, only that you're stupid enough to stand there taking swings at each other and will likely be a little sore for the next few days. I don't have any desire to be sore, so yes, if I have every right to be where I am, and I cannot convince you that fighting me is not in your best interest, and you insist upon fighting me, I'll just kill you and move on. I don't know you. I don't care about you. You can live, you can die, you can die by my hand and I won't lose a wink of sleep over you. Know why? Because if somebody is going to die and I have any say in the matter, it ain't gonna be me. My #1 job is to make it home safe to my family, and if you're insisting upon making that difficult to do and can't be talked out of it, well, you get what's coming to you. It doesn't prove I'm right or you were wrong, just that you're an idiot who wanted to fight somebody with no desire to fight and the means to avoid a fight that is forced upon him.

And as for "calling the cops", that isn't always possible. I've never known anyone acting aggressively toward another to press pause on their aggression long enough to allow their intended victim to dial 911. Like they say, when seconds matter the cops are minutes away.

Like I said, it isn't always a lack of ability to fight, but rather the lack of desire...and running away from a thug only encourages them, and they are that much more aggressive toward their next victim who may not be as able to defend against such an attack.

20 years ago at Jubitz I watched a guy use a decked out 379 as a battering ram into another truck. This was over a dispute as to who was next in line at the truck wash.

Not only did he destroy the front of his own truck, but he was hauled off to jail. I witnessed everything from beginning to end and gave statement to police. This guy went nuts.

behavior like this predates Trump or Obama

If you use ANY politician as a role model you probably have bigger problems than an internet chat board is equipped to address.

The mindset of many drivers who are coming in today is different then the typical mindset of the typical driver 30-20 years ago. Of this there is no dispute as far as I'm concerned. We can argue about what is leading to this and it really probably doesn't matter since we ain't going to regress to a "nicer more laid back society".

Not everyone is ####y and short-tempered, but enough are and there are A LOT of truckers on the roads today. More and more every year with no end in sight, so you can only expect these sorts of issues to increase. Lot's of sources of stress out there and we're all susceptible to losing it at some point, given enough accumulated frustration and anger over BS that isn't necessary.
