you know what convoluted thinking is? Living in Florida and not being prepared for a hurricane, (particularly when you're warned about a week out that it's coming.).. That's convoluted thinking.
But it's ok to steal peoples stuff because, well, just because........
The snowflakes continue to fall......
Driver thought he was doing a good deed then got fired for it

If you have access to the facebook information could you relay that information along to us? I'm sure others may be as curious as I am; how the FundMeAccount turned out, as well as the general tone of the comments concerning driver Tim's actions.
ThanX in advance.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
The comments I saw there are mixed. About half support, half calling his actions illegal. This comment was notable though..
stayinback, x1Heavy, G13Tomcat and 1 other person Thank this. -

I had a hunch that WE fired him. There is no way a trucking company will absorb that high of a loss. No matter how much gold that driver is worth by body weight. To paraphrase.
I have been fired for incurring losses much much smaller than that. Several times. And one time for huge amounts of ripple effect losses.
Some of the posts were on one side, others on the other that's to be expected. I enjoyed this thread because several were very good here.
It is real easy for WE to sit there and broadcast that the driver quit the way they did, then wait long enough and this social media post comes out which professes that the driver was actually FIRED.
You can take this one of two ways. If he is fired, for that. He wont be working in the industry again for a while. It is one of the things you do not do allow people to get to cargo in that trailer, even if it's a policeman who had decided it's nto a good idea for that driver to leave now going to Atlanta where he was told to go previous night.
Again without rehashing everything all over again.... I'll just leave it be. I probably had the idea last night thinking about this that there was a number of trucking companies that must have quietly pulled this driver's DAC.. perhaps. Or will be soon. Out of curiosity more than anything.AfterShock and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
Meanwhile, Homie Depot is laying low and not saying much after being associated with the situation. Some folks think HD yelled thief in the night. They didn't. But the HD corporate offices are assessing the damage already inflicted that they'll have to turn over to their public relations -- repair and restore department.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear the powers that be Homie Depot publicly denounce the decisions Western Express hastily made before considering the potential for negative re-actions to their action.
In any given area there are only a certain number of potential shoppers. The supply of shoppers is limited. If a store chain can't generate new wallets, they have to lure customers away from their competition.
Stores like Homie Depot and Lowe's are in position to make a LOT of money selling reconstruction supplies that could continue for several years. Be a shame if Homie lost a large chunk-0-money due to the folk's misunderstanding and resulting in a boycott.
ThanX Western Express.
I'd imagine corporate HD has already reviewed their contract with WE. I'd doubt if it's up for renewal.
Go figure,......
If the folks who say driver Tim is a thief are correct, either he's a dumb one, .... or someone who thinks so, is.
How many of those losses occurred during a natural disaster; because what you lost was desperately needed to keep the alligators and snakes out of the homes of humans who might harm those reptiles if they ventured into houses?
OH!
I should also mention that there is a possibility that human life remained that way because of the plywood.
We'll never know that answer for sure, ... because it didn't happen
That's a GOOD thang, ... right?
Didn't hear no ohhh, if only we'da dun this, ... or that different.
Git-er-Dun!!
I couldn't agree more, but I would if I could.
Sincere ThanX to y'all.
All is fine still.(lie)
We would welcome him back.
(bovine excrement)
Proving the poster who opined the PR Dept. at WE are idiots, ... or was it morons?,
is correct. Actually, either one would be spot on.
Watch the stock marked figures if WE is publicly traded. You can bet the stockholders are.
And we thought hurricanes made big ripple effects?
Because he gave stuff away?
Who asked that?
No!
Because he did the right thing selflessly.
That shows fortitude. It wouldn't matter what the situation is, folks like driver Tim can be depended on to know and do the right thing. Confidence. That's a good feeling for an employer to have.
Driver Tim is probably already receiving job offers from outfits or O/O's with excellent compensation and conditions.
WoW!
This thread covered a variety of views and opinions, actions and reactions and viewpoints. I sincerely appreciated all of the responses. It all caused me to think about and consider both sides of the coin, and I hope it did the same for y'all.
I'm especially impressed with the absence of personal attacks and continuing food fights, too often for reasons long forgotten. I hope that continues for as long as this thread does.
One last thing though, ---
If I'm not mistaken, this thread was begun by pattyj,
I think she oughta get a thank yew, too. But I think she has me on ignore.
So, ..... if anyone here isn't on her iggy list, would'ja pass the ThanX along?G13Tomcat, IluvCATS, bullhaulerswife and 2 others Thank this. -
HD should be thankful that the dindus did not raid the entire store and strip it of that plywood. Must have been a pretty nicer area I would imagine.
Anyhow... we used to run certain loads into a HD that were associated with the Nursery side. There was a store location that does well over a million in many customers business really quickly in a span of time we got trapped in. Damaged about 10K of trailer inventory trying to get out.
I rather the trailer inventory than say 50 customer vehicles in a offset spiral situation to get out of that lot. The root cause was no staffer was sent out to manage traffic flowing around the big truck trying to get out that day. We had to return the next day to unload the rest of it. And they had 10 staffers on hand doing nothing but shooing cars over that way so we could execute a simple giant circle and head straight downhill for the gate.
One of the problems in that property was four HD company day cabs with 30 foot flatbeds. Manager was a bit snotty with me surveying the damage my giant 53 did. And said we turn around here all the time. (Yes sure, minus 25 feet.... And god knows how short those tractors are, add that too doofus.) There was 40 feet from building side to curbing where all of the trailers were cabled together. My turning radius needed 44 feet. 4 short.
Oh well. There was a workaround. Position trailer and then drop it 1/3 of the way around turn back into it at the side directly in and finish the turn Since the trailer is 53 feet versus the 40 feet from building wall to curbing. Even more inventory would have been destroyed. There is no point crossing curb 30 foot hill berm.
Did not hear anymore about it. Actual losses were two small trailers, figure around 2000 dollars from actual damage. Plus tow truck fee etc. We let dispatch know no more HD for us. And we did not do HD at home either. It's been going on 18 years now. Plenty of that big box type stores to go around.
What is unsaid so far is that every driver in most companys worth their salt maintains a file into which complaints, violations, problems, service failures (Being late....) and so on go into it. When it reaches a certain weight or gets too thick to manhandle around the desk, that driver is dismissed from the workforce and it's contents entered into DAC.
What I would prefer to see as a final solution to the Storms and so forth Is homes poured in concrete or similar, raised up in non flood plain etc and established just so that it will be around 400 years regardless if there is a 150 mph hurricane come through every so often. There are homes built to that kind of engineering in the last 10 years or so which did storms similar without too much trouble. Build em one time and no need to evac etc.G13Tomcat and AfterShock Thank this.
