Since you ask wwjd? I think he would use his magical powers and make the storm go away, and then condemn this man for the theif he is.
I wonder how many of these people that are cheering the driver would be happy if some construction company guy came to their house, tore down a wall or two and gave the materials away to people boarding up their homes... It's the same concept. He stole for WE (their insurance, however it's handled). It was not his to give out. Someone that stupid really does not need to be behind the wheel of a truck.
Let's say crowd wants that wood. Driver says scram. Crowd Kills driver WWJD with the soul of that Driver? It's possible.
Driver goes off duty leaving the Big truck unattended, --- call it his lunch break. When he returns, he finds his trailer unloaded. WWADISPATCHERDO? WJWOULD DO all depends on things I couldn't possibly know. WWAJURYDO? Driver's actions resulted in saving property and lives. If not for his actions several citizens would have been killed. Could happen, maybe it even did. For that matter, the driver didn't steal the plywood, those in need just took it. I wonder if those who needed the plywood will come to Home Depot after the weather and conditions improve to pay for what they needed and took? Perhaps we should know the entire story before imposing a charges of theft. If those folks pay for what they took, would the driver's actions still be considered theft?
- the key words are "decided on his own" to give away the load. What other questionable decisions did he make on that load? How did that tire go bad? Did he stop for some barbecue causing him to miss the store closing by 30 minutes? Did he have orders to head inland to wait out the storm and then go whereever FEMA needed plywood? We don't what other circumstances may have led to termination. To the public relations - if a home depot cashier up to store manager decided to give away inventory you bet your sweet bippy they'd be fired and arrested. Giving away $30k plus is not a decision left to the rank and file. Also WE and HD dont get the benefit of the drivers give away. People will rememwbr that nice truck driver, not HD, not WE.
WOW!! I TRULY & GENUINELY understand the truck driver's thoughts. HOWEVER, you do NOT give away customers goods! That should have been cleared with Home Depot & his company. If the truck driver had personally paid for and owned the load of lumber, and then gave it to the people who needed it, that would be more than fine. AGAIN, it was NOT the truck driver's load, it was a load that belonged to someone else. The only way he could have legally bean able to give away the load is if the receiver told him to dispose the load, (didn't want it), and his company than said to do with what he wanted to with the load. God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
HOPEFULLY the truck driver will NOT have charges pressed against him. Also, the truck driver may have problems finding another truck driving job. God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
