Tim McCrory sounds like a conscientious driver and person and probably realized the importance of delivering his load of plywood knowing how badly it was needed.

A seven hour delay wasn't anticipated, but Tim made an effort anyway, --- and would have been there in time. However, Tim wasn't aware that HD would close early due to the approaching major storm.

He was there with a load of desperately needed material. Sitting there doing nothing when one has what it takes to help those in need during a disaster seems callous and hard-harted, mean spirited, uncaring about their fellow humans.
    Who cares about them?
    Is their life worth anything?

When a ship receives an SOS, that ship heads to that location PDQ. When they arrive in the area they find many people treading water to prevent going under They're exhausted after exerting their energy for so long. No time to waste. They need to be rescued ASAP.

A passenger on the rescue ship is on deck and sees several people in the shark infested water below him. Hanging nearby are several life preservers, there to be used to save lives. Those people in the water are pleading for help. Begging. "Please"!!?

The passenger hesitates, then decides to toss them life preservers. He grabs five or six life preservers and readies himself to toss them overboard, .......
    But WaiT!!!

Those life preservers belong to the shipping company, --- not the passenger. So the passenger decides not to throw them to the people drowning right before his eyes. That would be stealing something that doesn't belong to the passenger, and he's not a thief.
    Doesn't matter though.
What's more important than saving a life or two? Easy answer,...... obeying the law concerning theft. That's what.

If that passenger throws life preservers overboard that don't belong to him he'd be stealing them if he had no prior permission to do so. Better that he puts himself above the urge to save a life or two, and seeks permission from whomever can provide such permission

With the crew frantically working to save as many shipwrecked victims as possible as soon as possible, it could take awhile to determine who is the one to ask for permission to toss preservers overboard.
When/If that permission is finally granted, will those in the water, treading, still be above water?
If not, .... oh well, ... don't have to worry about them now.

"Are we gonna sit around here all day, wasting time looking for survivors? They got themselves into this mess, --- let 'em figure out what to do about it. Not my problem.

    I honestly don't know.

Like someone mentioned, after the flat I probably wouldn't have gone to the delivery unless I knew for sure it could be received.

I can't imagine giving away a load but in that situation I just might. Not without at least trying to get permission though.

He should have called the company and ask "The hurricane is looming, I'm sitting here in harms way, what do you want me to do? I can't stay here, I need to head North. Do you want me to dump the plywood or hang on to it; people are gathering around staring at all this plywood."

China, Those dispatchers are dumber than most drivers.........If he were to ask that very question, The response would have been.....

"Ummm.......Just be careful down there, Call us on Monday and give us an update how things are."

this requires an executive decision by Either this Driver- Or the Owner(s) of that Plywood.
And the Driver did very well here.

Its a tough call from a drivers perspective but you see a bunch of ppl trying to save their homes how can you not feel compassion and empathy.

Because it's not your property to give it away! It's like working in a grocery store and giving food away for free, because people are hungry out there.

ok, so if that happened (stripping the truck) he could report it stolen, then of course the cops most likely would do nothing under THOSE circumstances, BUT at the very least, he'd still have a job!

cargo theft IS a big deal, no matter what the freight, right?

THEN that theft gets chalked up to crime statistics, not driver compassion.

truck driving jobs MAY BE a dime a dozen, i can agree...but who will hire a guy that allowed this to happen, and cause a major flack with a potential lost of a multimillion dollar account??

if i owned a company, either as an o/o or a desk jockey, i'd be telling him to not pound the pavement, but to go pound sand.

Enlarging @Chinatown's picture of the driver brings up a news article that paints an entirely different story.

Ok everybody who thinks he did the right thing how much are you kicking into his GoFundMe account? The cops help distibute the goodies.
    A whole 'nother story.

'HD closed early'. Really? 9pm is early?

Irma didn't just get there. People waited too long to take precautions as is normal. Idiots.

I need a Gofundme page, it looks like easy money.
One of the actors on Mountain Men died in July and his is up to 109,000 by fans that thinks the show is real and that he was poor.
