My husband just put in his notice with TMC. On his paycheck he got a deduction for driver training agreement. Can anyone explain what this is?

Somewhere in that stack of papers he signed without reading in orientation was a reimbursement clause if he terminated his employment in a specified period.
This is why they throw crap at newbies en masse and will push them to just sign it.
They will use phrases like "It's standard" or "Every company does this". Bull squeeze! Do not sign a thing until you have read it ( and here is the important part) and understand it!

What do these trainees do if they get starved out or fired during the one year agreement?
If it were me I would want a written guarantee of a minimum amount of pay per week, during the one year period.. If they can't do that I would not sign the contract. -
Let me clue you into something. These guys are fresh to the industry. They are in no position to argue, debate, or negotiate. You either take the job or not. There are scores of other drivers waiting in the wings to take that driving job.
Once they get a few years of experience THEN they may have something to offer an employer.
As for signing the "contract" it is important they take the time to READ it as well as the company drivers manual. This will at least give them the rules to staying employed with that company. -
You hear a lot of this on this forum, and in truckstops "Well, I would do this and that if it was me"... horse hockey.
That's easy to say from the comfort of your keyboard, with no risk at all to your employment situation.
And what trucking company offers a written guarantee of pay? Somebody's smoking crack, I'm thinking.jlkklj777 Thanks this.
