So you're saying one should have a high level of schooling to make what that person deserves? The blue collar work force makes peanuts for wages and most a very demeaning wage at that.Trk driving pays a sad yet laughable drivers wage. But I see you've been driving for only 3 yrs so its understandable why you feel the way you do.I don't care what line of work you're in,everything on the market has increased at an skyrocketing pace. The wage should also increase so it balances out.How can trk drivers survive on what they're making? If companies have millions for elogs, bonuses ect ect then you can't tell me they don't have the funds for the backbone of this industry.

I don't know if you realize this but you just answered your own question with your question. Coming into compliance with new regs, new engine/truck costs, APU costs, new insurance costs ... in a highly competitive industry that makes raising rates almost impossible, the money that MAY have been directed to raising driver wages even modestly, is being spent early on in the year to meet all the other cash demands all carriers endure, mostly to satisfy requirements to meet rules and regs imposed by unelected, appointed bureaucrats i.e. big, out-of-control government. If you voted for today's progressive government then you got what you asked for.

In a way, drivers do get some raises from where they may have been 30 years ago in the form of "perks"

    APU's (for some)
    Health Insurance benefits
    Better equipment overall
    More regional operations (home time)

CFI started at .32 in 1996???

That's funny how Conway started me at .30 in 2011...

I guess now I see why the few million milers that still remain are always talking about how CFI was so much better. Not that there's too many left, anyway...

The more companies are forced to spend on modernizing their equipment the more drivers are suffering.I realize companies are keeping in compliance and can't do that without money. They're also spending more then they need to.That extra should go to the drivers. How much subsidy are companies receiveing for everyt driver, herad its 10k. compliments of the forced tax payers.

in the late 60s 13 1/2 cpm was a good starting wage. and they paid off the household movers guide also,so that made it even less. happy trails and be safe out there

Nahhh, unions are evil because the tv told me so. We need free enterprise so greed can run the conditions of this industry down to the ground.

The whole "if you don't like it, go somewhere else" attitude is what's causing this. This is exactly why my dad was making 28 cpm in 1984 and Werner still pays this 30 years later.

If people keep this up, sooner or later bottom feeders are going to lobby Congress to be granted permission to give out Visas to third world drivers so they can come here and alleviate the "driver shortage" and pay them 2 cpm. Think I'm exagerating? Never understimate greed in this country. Seeing how other industries have gotten what they wanted through smearing our politicians with "perks" I wouldn't be surprised if our industry were next.

These mega carriers have been paying #### long before todays government came into effect. I dont blame it on new rules and regs but it sure is a convenient excuse though. Look at the salary of some of these top execs and see how bad its hurting them, none. Just like any other big corporation in this country, it all goes to the top. If there were marginal profits these CEOs would be hitting the eject button and deploying the golden parachutes.

Let's see, 1 evil exec at the top draws a $500,000 yearly salary. This is "bad" so i guess in your world that exec should fore-go his pay and spread it out over 5,000 drivers he is responsible for. That means these lucky drivers would see an additional $100 per year pay increase. Really? That really benefited the driver.

Sounds like what we have here is more a matter of coveting then a failed understanding of real-world economics and free-market capitalism.
