I don't think there's enough plaques in the world to put one up for every exposed formation of ancient rock lol. In any case, I agree it's amazing that you can just park on the side of the road and see so far back into earth's history. One of the things on my bucket list is to tour Australia. It has a lot of the oldest known geology on the planet.

And if you look at that map, you'll see the Appalachians and the Scottish Highlands were once the same mountain range.

Ya know [?].... of course you're correct about not enough plagues but this exposed formation is the product of blasting to make a highway. It was hidden until then and now it just stands there and tells such an interesting story that is probably noticed by many but appreciated by so few.

I still think it deserves an explanation to those who just happen along. Its size is huge and it is such an interesting thing to see that I bet a lot of people would gain something by just having something to read about it. I wonder who I might contact to look into all of it?

Look around on the state government website. There's usually a committee that handles historical markers.

Actually I just finished sending a picture and email inquiring about that. Who knows? Maybe I'll get a response?

Where I do my picks and drops the most they only require a safety vest, clothing is optional.

Actually, Australia broke away relatively recently (within the last 50m years or so). It's spent most of it's life attached to Antarctica and South America. It's mostly due to just luck of the draw. A lot of the western portion of the continent has been exposed since its formation 3 billion years ago. There are areas where you can dig up zircon that's been dated to over 4 billion years old. There's also living stromatolites (thought to be mainly responsible for oxygenating the atmosphere) along the west coast.
