This ain't my first rodeo. Pre-loaded trailer dropped by a company truck on a concrete pad. It didn't sink. It wasn't a yard jockey. It was either a lazy driver who didn't want to crank the dolly legs down the extra couple cranks, or an ignorant one who has never learned how to properly drop a trailer.
Drivers leaving landing gear crank sticking out...

too all my fellow truckers, the topic was leaving the crank handle in the operate position.......NOT How high do we drop our trailers.....jeeeeesh get a clue and start another thread....we're supposed to be professionals!

oh and btw, we have a lazy,I couldn't care less driver who always leaves his handle in the out position, not to mention not even stowing it properly when hooking.....he doesn't do that either.

As to your problem with the crank sticking up, did you ever consider the possibility that the trailer may have last been loaded with Viagra?lagbrosdetmi, MidWest_MacDaddy and rocket237 Thank this. -
You all are quick to say the driver that dropped the trailer was lazy but the fault/responsibility actually lies with both drivers. The first one for leaving the handle out and the second driver for not looking before backing in. Just takes a few seconds to walk back there with a flashlight if it is dark.
As for drop height, I always crank until I take up all the slack from the legs and the leveling valve on the tractor just starts to piss out air. Then I drop my air and pull out.
As for the grease being scraped off, most people put way too much on there in the first place. If you grease the bottom half of the 5th wheel and just the lower part of the center the grease will get spread as the 5th wheel slide under the trailer. Hard to explain but I use a lot less grease than other drivers go thru.
With pulling mostly RGN trailers, I am hooking and unhooking a lot. Like 4 times per load. -

perhaps they think another driver should leave enough space to crank on the handle. if its taken out they're to close.
cnsper Thanks this.
