Newbie driver getting ready for looonnngg time OTR, how likely is it a driver can just pack their belongings in storage and live on the road, pay NO RENT and use hotels for resets? I am looking for a company to drive for when I finish ACC driving school...Any advice?

I have researched this a bit. The only thing I hear that is becoming hard is that the dmv in all states are now looking for a permanent address. They will no longer accept a po box so you will need to have a hard address you can use.
-
It is best to have a close friend or family member you trust who'll let you their address. If this is just not possible, try one of those mailbox services- they have a street address, not a PO box.
DickRammer Thanks this. -
DMV
"Live with family/friend" as a permanent address... -
I use my parents address. This works great, since my mom will watch the mail that comes in and advise me of anything she thinks might need my attention. And when I do go home, I take care of business and visit family at the same time.

DMV address problem solved
Hotels??? Does your company usually pay for 34 hour resets at a hotel?
Have you ever had to spend your 34 reset in the sleeper? -
No, you spend your 34 in the sleeper. Or the TS. The company doesn't pay for a hotel unless you are broken down, and they approve the room.
-
The only time I stay in a hotel is when the truck is in the shop over night! But I have an APU and bunk heater combo.
-
How common is that? -
wait until you get out here before you sell off all your sheet. give it 6 months as most drivers wont make it that long, and if you do make it by then the NEW AWESOME job will have worn off and you'll be able to make a legitament desion on weather your ok with living in a truck/hotel ON YOUR DIME.
I spend $16,000 +/- a year on my Apartment/utilities and i go home once every 2 or 3 months. BUT i also do allot of 10 hour and 34 hour breaks at home. I would love to save all that money, but i like haveing a place to call home more, i love being on the road but trust me you'll want to get the hello out of that truck.
