Never said that nor would I........we are in business to make a profit.......just like truckers.....if WE don't make a profit it impacts our shareholders......and they EXPECT us to make a underwriting profit. Last I checked profit isn't a bad word.........but for some reasons people tend to think that insurance companies shouldn't make a profit, and should operate at a loss so the insurance industry can subsidize bad actions on the drivers part.......so blame us if you will, but as you all so eloquently put it the steering wheel holders who cause the losses, and the ambulance chasers who run up medical bills so it "improves" their case, and juries of your peers who make ridiculous awards for minor soft tissue injuries are what set your insurance rates. You want lower insurance rates don't hit so many of your own.....average truck stop parking lot "backing" incident costs $ 15,000 - 25,000, and those seem pretty preventable

Calnca...I admire your guts for coming in here and being honest with us. I don't necessarily agree with everything you say but that doesn't mean it doesn't have value.
It's always good to know how the other side thinks. We've always seen the relationship between insurer and insuree as adversarial. We know that, even though we haven't filed a claim of any kind in almost ten years, that our rates will keep going up.
We recently changed carriers. We changed not because we weren't getting good service but because we weren't getting any consideration for our safety record and a bunch of drivers with clean records who help us stay in business. We didn't really save much money but it was an object lesson to see if anybody at the insurance company was really paying attention or even cared. They didn't offer us anything to stay.
The carrier we switched to has promised to predicate rate increases on our safety record and any future claims. We'll see if they keep their word.
What do you see as solution to the "steering wheel holders" and others who have so many preventable accidents?

Not sure what can be done.......we see a direct correlation to years of Class A CDL driving experience to "incidents".......most often the first couple of years they are preventable incidents.....backing, turning corners, hitting overpasses etc....things you would expect from a rookie. Trouble, or irony if you will is when they bang a four wheeler in these low speed incidents it's typically easy and cheap to fix the damaged unit, but the truck stop, rest area backing incidents with another tractor/trailer get pricey in a hurry.

We try to reflect in our pricing the considerations you mention......here in SoCal....new authority and new (less than 3 months) + $ 50K for liab/um/med/cargo/apd......down to $ 14,000 for multi year authority and 10+ years CDL.
