Drivers, what do you call your semi, semi? big rig?....thanks in advance

Call Her whatever She wants to be be called,assorries can be found on 4rth or 5th floor at the truck stop,depending on if they for day or night......

 

Ive always been drawn to the names of the 1900's. Personally I called all my trucks Elizabeth. Since we have Ol' Glory painted across our hood, my wife calls her Betsy. Hence, I do too.

 

Tractor or Rig is the Preferred Nomenclature. NO ,it doesnt matter as long as you know where it is.

 

I call mine the "mobile love nest".

Well since a CDL is involved, the semi is a commercial vehicle or combination by weight alone (letter classed for the sake of endorsement, or number classed by capacity), and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration generally categorizes it as a "large truck" (whereas "motor carriers" are responsible for commercial vehicle compliance, and drivers for refusing to drive non-compliant vehicles, or they may be one in the same). At times we may denote type or configuration (of which some require extra license endorsements to drive). Tractor-trailer, tanker, long combination, heavy haul, flat bed, day cab, make & model, etc. (down to how many gears, wheels, axles and so on). It is a heavy commercial truck subject to scale inspection whether or not it is combined at the time, and may depend on the logistics what it's called too, someone driving an empty or deadheading isn't hauling anything inside the trailer, or would be bobtail-ing without a trailer (just as this forum is subcategorized somewhat). I didn't memorize, list, or look up every possible name, it just depends on what I work with mostly.

Personally I don't personalize that which isn't my tractor or trailer on any given day with a pet name (or pet lane, except to try staying right by law—nobody's required to allow a semi to get in that lane), and I get the impression this big rig is colloquially more of a "smee" myself driving around other people (smee again)... How do you say semi?

Professionally I consider it an industrial operation (doesn't that sound exciting), between inspection, maintenance, and driving to particular standards. As with anything else in industry, it can be a combination of multiple disciplines (to some extent, if you don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere, or thrown in jail), so even though drivers may be considered unskilled, they're totally responsible at the same time (and this is something of a personal problem, in that the learning curve is up to the individual, beyond the basics, or as the situation dictates, like giving it a name all depends). I don't know, if they call it a large truck, does it not sound funny to say "I'm a large truck driver"!
