Hey, guys… and gals… I’m getting my CDL permit next week. Was wondering if there are those in the area that would be willing to mentor me. I haven’t searched the forum thread for this topic, so please forgive me if this topic has been discussed already. Thanks!

Reason for edit: It looks like someone hacked my account already? I didn't compose the response above. Please disregard. -
Maybe you'll find someone to help. It's difficult to these days though because of Elogs and insurance.
What's your plan as far as the type of trucking you want to do; tankers, flatbed, refrigerated and long haul or regional?
Have you considered attending a cdl school? -
I'm looking to drive flatbed or car hauler to begin with. I'd like to drive regionally... occasionally longer hauls. I haven't attended a CDL school. My current employment requires me here 6 days a week and I do not have the financial or time resources to step away from my current employment to go to school. It's going to be a bit tricky, perhaps, but I believe this is completely doable. The main thing is to find someone experienced and willing to lend their knowledge and expertise. I'm sure every newbie says how dedicated they would be... and I'm not saying they're coining a phrase... but, I'm 55 years old and with my work ethic, no matter what I've done as a vocation, I've killed it my entire life. I'm highly determined and up to the task. It's just that I'm not getting younger and my current employ is starting to cater to a younger clientele. I could probably stay on for another 5-8 years, but I'd rather put the nose to the grindstone now while I'm super healthy and strong and take the next step I feel extremely confident in undertaking. -
By the way... I edited a post above that looked like I responded to last night, but I didn't respond to anything until this morning. I was in bed at the time of the said post. Is this site easily hacked?

In the top right of your screen, where your avatar pic is, you will see your handle/user name. Click that, and then click PASSWORD. Make a new password and then log out when you're done at TTR.

You really should attend cdl school. Times have changed and unlike the old days, it's better to get proper training before looking for a driving job.
Here may be an option:
Miller-Motte Technical College
2451 Highway 501 East
Conway, SC 29526

This cdl school has an excellent reputation and may have a flexible schedule so you won't have to quit your job just to attend full time classes. Many tech schools offer night and weekend classes for cdl training.
Try to do it this way, then you can start a new career with a good company and make high paychecks from day one.
A new cdl graduate can make around $65K the first year driving tanker trucks, so consider that also.
I don't know of any car haulers that hire new cdl graduates. The liability is just too high for those companies to hire drivers with no experience.Last edited: Aug 5, 2018

Prime has a SE regional and will pay you $700 per week during training.
