Well if you go the way I'd go you wouldn't even need the tag....
I have purchased several trucks from various states and have never had any problems getting back home....I bought three KW's in TN and simply put "IN TRANSIT" signs in the windshield and even the KY cops just waved me thru the coops. Brought home a '96 FLD from Houston without as much as a temp tag... same for those KW's.
A temp registration and insurance should do ya fine... stay away from the scales, too.Rideandrepair, SHC and seahorse Thank this. -
If you get a temporary plate in FL, you'll need to get a short term (1 month) registration, which means you'll need to pay the sales tax, which is 6% of the sale cost. There are also about $15 in fees depending on which service you use.
I just bought my truck in Ft. Lauderdale, got a temp plate, then put it into storage outside Tampa until I can get everything filed.seahorse Thanks this. -
Thank's I am heading down on monday and if all goes well I will be driving north on Tuesday. The dealer said temp. Fla. tag is free but he needs insurance binder which I set up with my agent here in Ma. Are you saying to avoid the coops or Just don't stop?

I bought a trailer in NC several years ago and wanted to be all legal eagle (hard to believe I know). I spent HOURS in Raleigh and NO ONE at the DMV could figure out how to issue a temp tag for the trailer to an out of state resident... so I left without.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I believe you are right in Ma you pay the sales Tax at the DMV dealer said they don't care where I pay the tax. Thanks for the help

Luckily my mom knew what she was doing when we went there when i was 15 to get my learners permit and got everything certified. That way all I need is my license.
If your out of state you gotta jump through a ton of hoops, also the hoops are on fire. Lol

Last new company truck I got, I drove a month on the temporary and then two more months with no tags. I kept telling them I needed that stuff. Oh, we'll get you through the terminal. I didn't really care because I knew it was on them. Finally the 3rd month they overnighted the plates to me.
But all the coops I've been in including FL, not one leo noticed. I figured their eyes are focused on the driver?
What you are doing is personal conveyance. There's another thread on this somewhere and dieselbear chimed in. Write a few numbers in soap on the glass outside the wiper swing and they'll figure you bought it at auction. The temp paper in the right corner of the windshield and no one will bother you. Bobtailing you'll get a bypass at most of them.
Newly bought trucks travel the roads everyday. It's nothing new that you'll draw attention.DrtyDiesel and seahorse Thank this. -
