I can't see the IFTA sticker being a big deal since the truck will not be in any way conducting commerce, it will just be a large personal vehicle until you pulling a trailer and making money with it. That and its the one time you will get to put all those miles on not have to worry about stopping to break if you don't want to.

Under IRP there are two types of temp permits. Some, like NJ issue a 'Hunters Permit' which allows a person who just returned a carries plates to drive around Hunting for another carrier who is supposedly going to give/sell him a set of the carrier's plates.
This type of permit does not list any additional states like a regular IRP cab card and is not supposed to be used in commerce.
Other states do list the apportioned states on the temp and is good to haul freight.
If you have an IFTA account you could get another sticker b/4 you go pick up the new truck. I usually get one or two extra for my fleet every year.
Otherwise I would CYA w/ temp fuel permits to get home.
My luck woild be that we would need them just the time we chose not to get them.seahorse Thanks this. -
Well here I am in florida checked out the truck today 2007 International 9400I Eagle 489000 mi. Penske lease serviced every 30000 mi,4 "new" caps on the drives new steer tires, clean and straight body and frame, brakes above 50% no leaks. The truck runs good ,engine is a 565 ISX cummins with a 13 spd and 3:55 gears. The ECM report shows some High speed driving 85 MPH and a lot of idle time the truck had a PTO which was used quite often at high rpm the avg. MPG is 5.5,high speed and high idle time ? Any advice $42000 out the door.

Seems a bit high to me personally....maybe if it was an O/O truck with out all the abuse.

I wont give any advise on the condition of the truck good luck......as far as the plates you can transport the truck back to MA on your bill of sale that you get from the seller becaise you are going to plate it in MA....second im almost sure (positive in Ohio) that as long as you have an MC # or can use the MC# of the company you plan to lease to you dont have to pay sales tax
-
JT Nagford, I was just about to mention Ohio. In Ohio, as long as you have an MC# or PUCO#, you don't have to pay sales tax on a truck or trailer.
-
However, when I got back to Illinois, and went to transfer the title, I provided the original title, bill of sale, and receipt for the florida temporary registration and sales tax, and my illinois sales tax was waived.seahorse Thanks this. -
you said high idle time, what kind of hours/ecm miles are we talking here? if it has close to a half million miles on the clockas you said, most engine warranty will expire very soon unless you can find a way to purchase additional coverage..and if it has lots of idle time on top of that....might not be very long before you are doing expensive motor work.
As far as getting it back: depends on who you are. I bought a truck down south. ran it back to ct w no plates bobtail. open scales in a couple places on 81. waved through no issues. Got it inspected at ct dmv headquarters (CMVs purchased out of state have to have VIN check there) and the guy was interested but not asking any questions as to why i had gotten a temp ct paper plate to get it there, but had all inspections and the previous owners IFTA sticker still on it...oh well.
Swing 'em like they're huge; very few people ask questions...just my opinion.
Back to your prospective buy: personally I'd be hesitant to throw that much at a truck that has lots of idle time/more than 15% is way too much for me. That's just me though...seahorse Thanks this. -
I bought the truck will be going to work next week ,hope for the bestand I will keep you posted as to how it all works out!
