You will either love it or hate it.
But after a couple of years you will make about seventy thousand.
    Give it a shot.

That story reminds me of my brother in law. He went to buy a new Grasshopper mower for his 2 acre yard. He came back with the biggest diesel model they make. He said the salesman told him he should get a big one so his son could mow a few yards in the neighborhood and pay for the mower as well as make his son a bit of money.

The problem, like your friend, was their yard was small with flowerbeds and sidewalks and it’s way too big of a mower for their own yard. And to my knowledge they’ve never mowed anyone else’s yard with it either lol.

The salesman came out good on the deal though.

One of mine did for 2 or 3 years, then decided to become a police officer. He liked trucking ok, but always wanted to become a police officer. Now he works narcotics with a drug dog.
His first trucking job was hauling seafood out of Florida with several stops between Florida and California. He liked it.

    What six said X10.

Get into food service or LTL to be home daily with the young one. Both of those you can make bank, well above industry standard.

    Congratulations on your newborn!

The truth is that there are a TON of local jobs in Houston, especially if you get your hazmat and tanker endorsements.

The first year is always tough but you'll net more than $37k, and you won't have the headaches associated with running your own business. Once you have a years' experience, many more doors will open to you.

SADLY & UNFORTUNATELY, I actually do know of an older lady, age 75+ & retired, who is supporting her 30+ year old son. He has NEVER held a job in his life. She is one of the nicest people on the face of this earth. Her husband, her son's father, passed away many years ago. The 30+ year old son is the only child the couple ever had.
    2) Her son is actually a nice man, does not talk back to anyone, always does what his mother tells him to do, and works quite hard at both maintaining the yard & house that he and his mother live in. He also cooks very well. The 30+ year old son is a high school graduate.
    3) Both the mother's relatives & father's relatives have urged the mother to make her son go out & get a job, along with getting some exposure to the world around him. The mother is NOT in the best of health. Eventually the 30+ year old son will have to learn how to fend for himself.

    Question:
Could this 30+ year old man get with a trucking company training program to learn how to be a truck driver, either as an OTR or local driver?

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.

Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round.

Did you decide not to pursue Yellow trucking, in your other thread?
