How fast are you going down the hill riding your brakes at 10psi all the way down? How much are you grossing? What if your way might not be the best way on the backroads? Once your trailer starts to slide how much speed will you pick up on a 7% grade trying to get everything lined out again and then how do you plan to slow down for the next switchback? How many trips over Lolo Pass or Lost Trail or Harpster Grade or Whitebird have you made in inclement weather?

When someone brings "the way I was taught" into a discussion like this I'm inclined to discount the information that follows.

Can you imagine bringing 105K lbs down White Pass with brakes only? At least you'd be safe from sliding, because you wouldn't get down until Spring.....

Yup, HPCR eliminated all of that. The one truck I run with a CM870 or 871, fuel stays so warm it’ll melt snow in -30 air temps. The N14, Series 60, and E models were the same. Fuel ran through the head.

Wind chill ain’t gonna cool it off more than ambient temp. You aren’t gonna prove me wrong.

And I'm not going to try.

    And on that note.
What's the reasoning for the dash to light up the ice warning at 37*?

Because if the ground/road is frozen somebody with a bit of experince knew that ice could be forming on the road at 37 degrees is my guess.

And bridge decks freeze before the road surface.

All you have to do to test the whole wind chill thing is to hit a surface with a temp gun. If it’s 10 degrees and the windchill is -20 whatever you’re shooting is going to say 10 degrees.

The stupidest term the weather gurus use now instead of “wind chill” is “feels like”.
How the hell do they know what it “feels like “ to me?

MACK E-6 and Oxbow Thank this.

    My garage
    50*
    My floor
    42.4*
    Fan on floor
    37.3*

Surface isn't the same as ambient.
    And wind made it colder.
    What am I missing?
