Driving CMV without a CDL

    Nah I lived in GA at the time. They drop off after 2 years in GA. Virginia has always been tough on truckers ever since I started driving in the 70s. Yea its ridiculous that you get a ticket for 70 mph and it stays on your record forever but like I said in another post, in 6 months Im done with it so they can put whatever they want on my record- still cant prove I ever hurt anyone in a truck after 40+ years of driving all over this country so I did my job- and thats whats important to me. Rest of the BS dont matter. lol

    My only class 1 inspection was in VA. My load shifted and put me over weight. I had my cat scale ticket from Georgia so full inspection and no issues at all.

    Yea they do a lot of inspections. Indiana used to up there at Seymour til they shut em down.

    Most of those companies that relocate camper trailers require a cdl-A license now- pulling them with duallys. Of course, that might just be a company requirement?

    Most duallys are at least 13k GVWR so and most tandem camper trailers are 14k GVWR so they would be over 26k.

    We can pull our 14k trailer with a 3/4 ton and not need a class a driver but hook the exact same trailer to the dually and bam we need a class a driver.

    Look at it this way. Once you get your cdl you can go pick up the trailer you ldft behind.

    Biggest thing Ive got is a 20' car hauler. I pull it with my 3/4 ton but Id rather have a dually, just dont want to spend that kind of money!LOL

    A lot of those big 5th wheel campers have 16,000 lb GVWR's and a 1 ton dually like a Ram 3500 is around 14,000 for a GCWR of 30,000, but I have a very hard time believing they would sell RV trailers to the general public that couldn't legally be pulled by any consumer level pickup truck with a regular class C license. So that's up above 26,000 but in reality you would never be that heavy since you'd have to have 7,000 lbs in the bed plus the 5th wheel in tow, so the combination would be no more than ~23,000 lbs

    I drove a Chev Duramax duely reg cab short wheelbase 4x4 with a aluminum flatbed pulling a 2 axle 48 foot gooseneck car hauler trailer the most befor I got my CDL. That truck had 11200 on the plates and the trailer had 14000 lb rating on its manufacturing plate. Not the most common of trucks these days. Great for plowing snow and pulling that style of trailer but that's about it.

    That's for-hire driveaway work though. Those guys are subject to DOT compliance.
