I used to hear 1 gear lower than you made it up in. Modern 1980 s that changed to same gear. Always wondered as mentioned about different grades up vs dn?? First time I got in big hills on 64 e of I-75. I asked an O/O who had same set up as my driveline who was also loaded heavy. He gladly showed me the fail safe way. We almost came to a stop and rolled down without a glitch nice and slow. I don’t always do that now unless I’m in a unfamiliar area. Better safe than sorry. Steady braking causes fires. Done that once. Luckily put it out!!! Live and Learn be safe. Go slow stab brake before the curve!!! Gas on it before going up the next hill so you don’t lose too much time. You’ll be a pro in no time. But go slow especially in winter. That way it won’t get away from you.Over time you’ll figure out when you can go a little faster. Don’t forget the 4 ways. Be Safe
