With things not going well at the job I left Swift for (no loads.....sit at home a lot), a Swift recruiter caught me in the right mood at the right time...... (250 bucks a week is not something I can support a family on, and I am not going to wait and see if the local freight improves). Recruiter seemed shocked I said yes. Apparently that is a word he is not used to
Then I told him I want a truck governed at 75, paper logs, classic Pete, O/O pay in a company truck, and a kegerator installed in my truck, and my old driver code, and since I left as platinum, start back as platinum.
"Well, I can get you a Volvo that does 62.......and your old driver code"
We had a laugh, then started the rehire process. Mind you, it took the first time around 2 days for everything to come back to get scheduled for orientation. This time, it took less than 2 HOURS. Yes....hours. The DOT required reference from the job I was leaving was done over the phone.......(and I was in my bosses office at the time, turning everything in, and being told I always have a home there, and he totally understood.......my boss said lots of nice stuff about me to Swift)...I thought they send off that form for that.....not this time.
According to the recruiter that called me, Swift just bought 400 more trucks.......and they don't have enough drivers to fill the ones they have right now.
My wife and I had been talking about me going OTR again, (much better insurance and she doesn't have to look at my ugly face.....plus the money) so she was happy with it.
Hopefully, I can request the DM I had when I left. She was awesome.
Driving for Swift......Take 2

I am seeing lots of 670 Volvos in Silver with company logos all over them rolling West on I-40 coming from the factory.
-
There are quite alot of trucks right now at PHX. Both lease and company. Heard that 14 l/o turned theirs in yesterday.
-
-
Highly doubt that
-
Guess whoever is thinking about swift/leasing should read this...
-
I tried getting a lease truck, but my sheer instincts and guts tells me not to sign. They flew me to see a truck, I declined it, and then they said, well you figure out how you're going to get home.
This tells me that the majority of lease operators are not doing due diligence, reading every line on the contract and just blindly signing their next 4 years to swift.
Not dissing the leasing program but I've encountered too many red flags to pursue it further. -
There are those that are making it, and those that are not. Everyone that I know is doing just fine. I have been in mine for over 1 year now, and no real complaints, other than planners that do not do their jobs like before sending pplan, make sure that I am a l/o and not a company driver.
-
Bls there should be a dedicated planning outfit designated just for l/o like yourself, as you're twice as accountable for things normal company drivers are not. I have a lot of respect for you guys because with swift it is a make it or break it ordeal with l/o's
