The only time your phone records will be checked, is if you have a "PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT"..
I went thru the distracted driving class, and ZERO was mentioned about pulling your phone records if you get a random alcohol test..
If you do have a "PREVENTABLE ACCIDENT, the driver has to provide the phone records, for "THAT DAY ONLY"...

Well, that is what they told us in Buckeye. I don't know which DC you are out of. Differences in information can come from differences in questions and the discussion, I guess.
Your phone record being pulled for that day, when you have a preventable, is current policy.
If there was not the "threat" of it being pulled at some point, randomly................ what would be someones incentive to follow the policy???
Please don't act like I'm not telling the truth. What would be my incentive to do that??mje Thanks this. -
Seymour DC, 6017!!! Our safety guy made a point to tell us, that our phone records would not be pulled UNLESS, we had a preventable accident..
ZERO was said about ANY alcohol testing..
I am not saying you are not telling the truth, maybe there are two different policies, one for the west, and one for the east..
Are you in one of the 4 test dc's where the policy is different?
Not trying to cause problems, just stating what was said in our distracted drivers mtg..mje Thanks this. -
You guys need to remember that GTM's as well as regional and local safety people have the ability to "customize" policy. Of course Bentonville will set the minimum but its quite possible to see the restrictions are tougher at the DC level depending on the GTM.
mje Thanks this. -
We are one of the test DC's. We go live October 1st, like I said.
Our GTM showed us the statistics for incidents with our drivers, and it is pretty obvious how many of the issues were contributed to by being on the phone. You don't just run into the side of a store if you are not distracted. As others have said, I know that I have passed my exit when I have been on the phone. So, when the policy starts, short of pressing issues, I will not be on the phone at all, when driving. There are plenty of opportunities for me to talk to my wife when I'm not moving. This way I won't even have to deal with possible repercussions.
Even as one of the test DC's, I do not see this as a big deal. Frankly, I see it as common sense. They are not wholesale firing, like the fearmonger likes to state. They are just trying to be safer.mje Thanks this. -
Walmart should not have to put any restrictions on thier drivers but the times are changing and alot of people see that Walmart truck as nothing more than a big ATM on wheels. With everything you do being recorded or kept in cyberspace its not hard to find a driver at fault,as if that hasnt always been the case.
I also wonder how much of this has come about because Walmart has had to lower thier standards to keep seats filled. Of course everyone is subject to accidents but real professionals know when you really need to focus extra hard to avoid incidents. Walmart drivers are some of the best in the industry because they have proven to be safe and reliable throughout thier careers. That was never questioned until recently.
We all know what it takes to go that extra mile for safety thats why you made the cut and got the job. For me its all about that cruial time between the exit from the interstate to the dock,of course accidents happen on the interstate but they are far more likely to occur during that time frame where you leave the interstate to where you get back on. Years ago I made the decision to get rid of my CB,I just found it a huge distraction not to mention just about useless when you really needed it. Another thing I started doing was as soon as I leave the big road I shut off my sirius and never mess with my phone or ipad until Im safely out of the dock and parked in the store lot.mje Thanks this. -
From our accident statistics, the vast majority of incidents are from senior drivers, not the newer ones. Now mind you, the majority of our incindents are pretty minor, but it is interesting to break down the numbers.
Walmart watches trends in the industry and in litigation. As they see something needs to be addressed, to lower their exposure, they do it. It is hard to pick on Walmarts safety record, so lawyers are picking up hot button topics like distracted driving, now. The biggest of those being, the phone. Yes, as professionals we should know when to talk, and when not to................. like for myself mainly talking when on an interstate. However, when you see an uptick in a trend, it is time to nip it in the bud. We are the big boy on the block, and everyone loves to hate Walmart. They sure don't hate Walmarts money, though................. especially if they can extort a little bit of it for themselves.mje and Desert_Skies Thank this. -
