It's okay to run the middle lane but if you're doing 60 in a 65/70mph Hwy. then get the hell out of the way and stay in the right lane.
I see this all the time now. Trucks will run that center lane, 5 mph under the speed limit and will not move, making other trucks fight traffic to pass them in the right lane. These so called truck drivers are either inconsiderate or just plain stupid.

I have no problem if people want to run the middle lane for what ever reason they wish. But don't you dare ##### at me when I pass you on the right. If I can't get in the left lane than I am going to pass you on the right if you ride in the middle.

I generally just go with the flow and try to maintain a decent following distance, That generally means doing the speed limit since so many 4 wheelers and trucks cut in front of me whenever I get more than a few feet.

As often as not there is some granny in a 4 wheeler or some idiot on the phone in the middle going slow anyway. Its not all big trucks blocking it up. Too many people in a hurry trying to save 15 minutes at the end of the day by weaving in and out of traffic. Pretty stupid thing to do in a big truck. And we wonder why the general public thinks we are stupid. If you pass me on the right and I am doing the speed limit then you are the dumb###.

I agree with Yost. I know it bugs a lot of drivers to see people pass on their right but... If you want to play slowpoke in the center lane, and some idiot is not passing in the left lane, I am going to pass you on the right.

I really wish they would enforce passing laws in the States. Stay out of the left lane unless you're going to pass, them move back right.

Why not just run the speed limit until the congestion clears up? It really doesn't bother me to get passed on the right or the left. Its the aggressive driving, tailgating and weaving in and out that does. Its not someone going slower that causes these unsafe actions its a personal choice on the part of that driver.

I have no problem with you or I running in the middle lane in a truck or a car. I voted yes in the poll. It is much more comfortable in many situations.

I also miss the signs and laws "keep right except to pass" and "slower traffic keep right". What I miss most is the common courtesy that drivers, especially truck drivers, used to show each other.

It is not any other driver's right or purpose in life to dictate or otherwise impose his driving habits, speeds or the laws on another driver. We should all operate within our abilities and comfort zones.

Thirty years ago when you came up on a slower truck, regardless of how fast he was running, he made an effort to let you by. You usually heard, just a minute driver I'm pedaling as fast as I can, on the CB.

So this is my opinion on this subject. You should be able to run whatever speed you want in whatever lane you want and I should be able to run whatever speed I want in whatever lane I want. We should show each other some coutesy and move over if the other wants by. If we aren't willing to do that we should expect to be passed on the right.

On a final note. You aren't going to force me into the "show off lane" if I have another choice.

I just had to run clear across LA yesterday. I ran 65 mph almost the whole way always one lane over from the right lane. Then I loaded in Carson, CA and left there at 4:00 pm and headed north. The trucks that were glued to 55 mph in the right lane encounter alot more obsticles than I did. Couple times I would get a lane or two over to the left.

LA, Bay area, Stockton, Sacramento, and any decent sized town going down 99 I stay one lane over from the right lane and pretty much run the same speed as traffic. Last time I checked it was up to the CHP to enforce speed limits, not slow ### governed trucks.

The split speed limits are the most unsafe thing on the road. You are much safer to run with traffic than to follow the speed limit in an urban area. Once I get out of town I set it at 60 mph and ride. Always make good time in the cities though.
