Well than, I don't think the military is for me than. I really only wanted to go in to become a truck driver because I have always wanted to drive a Peterbilt 389 since I was little. Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to find another way to get into trucking.
Nukem Thanks this. -
let's just say he didn't go into trucking. He was a great machine operator but a truck driver is was really really bad. on the road test he took out the pickup that belonged to the business next door and he almost took down a telephone pole at the end of the street. He admitted he wasn't that good - he said he did some damage with an Oshkosh he was driving. So after the cops made their police report on the pole, he knew he wasn't going to work for me.
The good news is, he got a job with a construction company who was building my house's foundation, I took him there to see what I was doing and introduced him to the owner of the company.Mooseontheloose, Blackshack46 and Chinatown Thank this. -
Like I told my kids...
Look at it this way...
If you do your service and get out honorably, you will have AT A MINIMUM, college paid for. Plus the added bennie of having medical/dental if you so choose...
Plus it will also give you the chance to grow up and figure out who you are, while having the needed support to take care of your basic needs. All the while giving you the chance to figure out who you are and who you want to be.Mooseontheloose, BigDog Trucker and tramm01 Thank this. -
@Nukem Are you a trucker now and if so what kind of truck do you have?
-
yes. and I'm a company driver, not an O/O. I'm in a new Crapcadia
Was it an adjustment to get used to... Yes.
Was it rough to make ends meat and pay bills at first... YES!
but if you have read some of my posts in the past... My House WILL ALWAYS be paid for at a minimum for the time I have served. My family will never have to worry about NOT having a place to live, thanks to my time in.Chinatown Thanks this. -
What do you guys think of this company. It's near me. CW Trucking LLC

But now see, your digging into a can of worms that needs some more serious thought...
You want to drive a 389. Got it...
Do you want OTR? Local? Dedicated?
Will you want (In the future of course) a family?
Are you thinking LONG term when it comes to driving?
What are you willing to do, depending on where you live?
Do you want to drive days? Nights? weekends?
What do you want to haul? Reefer? flatbed? dry box? heavy haul?
etc...Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
I don't know if the company hires 18 year olds, I doubt it if they give drivers those trucks. @Nukem I want to do otr, and yes I want to do it long term. If I do think about having a family though, I will probably switch to driving local. As of now I'm in NY, but I am thinking about moving to Mississippi because a lot of my family is there. I want to do tanker, platform, and maybe even walk on trailer work. I have never ridden in a truck but I am going too soon because I have a family member who owns a precast company and he has two W9's there. Thanks
