Friend of mine in White House, TN served in 5th Special Forces Vietnam. Two Silver Stars of which one was a downgrade from Medal of Honor. Medically retired at 100% after serving 12 years; bunch of Purple Hearts.
Really cool guy and married to a friend of my wife.

Try finding a job at a co-op or a bigger farm like Chinatown said, you probably won't get put in a new 389 but you'll get some experience driving trucks. Find a job at a farm and get used to being around critters, livestock hauler companies are who mostly have the nice hoods. You're not goingvto be driving a pete in the military, they're mostly going to be Oshkosh heavy, rough riding ######## built to be indestructible not pretty, at least from the surplus military trucks I've seen for sale.

@Chinatown yep Dover is home now since 2003, I love TN! originally from WA state. Can’t go back there too many weirdos. Thanks for the link to that pic. Please tell your buddy that we have a reunion every year in September, would love to have him there, it is pretty cool a bunch of Vietnam Vets come in for it. They stay at a hotel and we active duty guys get to drink beer and hang out with them and trade our weak stories with their awesome ones. Last year a guy brought a picture of a Tiger he killed because the Tiger attacked on of his Montanyards! What how crazy is that?

That store you delivered too is gone now we just have the Pig and Dollar General left, the old grocery store is now a Co-op pretty cool you are a TN guy, I have been creeping on this site for awhile but never posted. From what I can tell you are the hog with the big nuts on here, thanks for helping out all these aspiring truckers, I have learned a lot from your and others posts. I am trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.

Explanation accepted. You need to follow your own heart. The military is not for everyone. Neither is truck driving as I'm sure you know but it is a special life and service in it's own right. Yes? I hope you find just what you are looking for and keep us up to date here on ttr.

I think he knows about the reunions. He fishes a lot on Old Hickory Lake, but I don't think he takes long trips because of his knee hurting. Has to get the knee joint replaced every 5 years. Got his knee blown out when they were snooping around in North Vietnam. Haven't seen him since I moved from Tennessee; his wife came to visit when we lived in China, and only talk to them on the phone now since we moved to Las Vegas.
Great bunch of people that served, from all the branches. Many don't know the Coast Guard had a rough time in Vietnam also. Wow, time zips on by and soon we're not even a memory in anyone's mind. I guess our last thought is probably, "Dang, what was that all about, that brief life, that was just a brief flicker of light that was our whole life span."

My oldest boy is in the Air Force, he is making a career out of it. He had made up his mind long before talking to a recruiter and when he went in to see one, she started with the benefits after he serves and he politely stopped her and told her he may make it a career and the education he gets while in is what he wants for a career, not after. He also said he feels honored to serve, and the country doesn't owe him a thing after he does because he made his decision to serve first, education second.

You can always do the reserves and still be a trucker for a civilian company. Its only one weekend a month of duty, which you can knock out when you're home on your reset. And if you ever get deployed for 6 months or a year, companies will hold your job for you until you get back. Its not a bad gig, really. Look into it. You can still do national or air guard and get military experience running equipment and trucks. You're only 18, so you could start now, do your 20 years as a reservist and retire at 38 and have a decent little pension check waiting for you when you turn 60. Might not seem like a big deal right now at you're age, but when you get into your 30's you realize how important it is to have a retirement plan set up for yourself.

Good idea; Seabee's has a facility in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Earn two pensions at one time; one in the military reserves and one in trucking.

Sure can and that kept everything in perspective; never could get into the "gung-ho" mode.
