Hello! I am a licensed electrician. I have an F350 that has a GVWR of 13,000. It has a large enclosed Reading utility body and is dual rear wheel.
I have mostly operated in one state but have done a few jobs in other states. Looking back I'm not sure if I needed DOT numbers but I never did have them and never had trouble. I always just got state inspection sticker and registered it commercial plates.
I moved to another state across the country, and need to drive the truck there. I am only taking my personal belongings, there is no lein on the truck.
I am trying to figure out how to go about this the right way, is there a consultant or other I can hire to ensure that I am incompliance with all regulations?? I need to drive through 10 or 11 states, so thats a lot to read up on.
I really appreciate the insight, I was only going to get a temporary tag to drive it out there, and then deal with getting registered in my new home state at a later date. I would not need to use the truck for some time. Thank you very much!

Hey @MACK E-6 who is our DOT expert? I am thinking I would get in it and drive it to the new home leaving the current tags on it, but that might not be correct information. If all else fails he can call OOIDA and get the skinny.
MACK E-6 and DiverseWorks Thank this. -

Get in it and go, think nothing of it. As I understand it you're a guy driving his own truck across the country. You aren't in commerce (making money) hauling freight.
Tag and insurance are all that is needed IMO.TX2Day, austinmike, broke down plumber and 3 others Thank this. -

Glad to help, but to be clear I'm no expert. Respectfully I think you were probably overthinking it. Even though I own and drive trucks now I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get in any tagged vehicle that needs to be moved and hit the road and I certainly wouldn't stop at a scale unless I was in a tractor trailer.
NM and Oregon would be the only to states I would be a little paranoid about crossing in to since they'll pull you right in if they don't like the looks of you, so you might want to bypass the POE going in to NM.TX2Day Thanks this. -

You’re not involved in commerce; you’re moving. Nothing to be bothered with. Don’t stop at scales or anything of the like; you’re not heavy enough, anyway. Run your current tag and insurance. You have a minimum of 7 days (some states are longer) to register and insure the vehicle in your new state, once there.
TX2Day, austinmike and DiverseWorks Thank this. -
Different states, different rules. In Ca. 6 wheelers are CMV, need to stop at open scales. Rental trucks too.
TX2Day Thanks this. -
@brian991219 Any words of wisdom?
TX2Day Thanks this.
