i've driven for nine months in a semi but have had my license for 8 yrs now. I never eat and drink while driving, especially in a semi. i got rear ended last month by a chrysler, I in my pick up, i had my friend and her 15 month old with us,the other driver was eating and drinking. I thank god every day that i opted for a pick up for if i'd had a car the baby would have seriously been injured and his mama and i woulda ended up in jail. i would have killed her. Eating and drinking while driving is too much of a distraction. if i go out to eat i eat at the restaurant i'm OCD about having my food hot when i eat it. it could be a car with a toddler or baby in that i'm hitting and i couldn't take it if i did.

Had close to the same thing happen a few years back to my daughter and my three grandkids. This driver had a good half a mile to see my daughter.
He admitted to the DOT and the cops that he was going over the manifest when it happened.

My daughter and her kids lived though but spent long times in the hospital. My oldest grandson will have back problems for life, as will my daughter. My grand daughter had fairly bad head injuries, also will have life long problems. My youngest grandson bumded up he knee pretty bad.

My daughter was stopped waiting on traffic to go by so she could turn into the school to drop off the kids. Yes, this happened in a school zone.

While I do drink sodas and eat snacks while driving, I am responsible for anything stupid that I do in my truck, eating or not.

My daughter sued the company and won but it didn't come close to covering the pain they will live with for the rest of their lives. Nor the sheer panic that I went through when I got the phone call.

Drivers be as careful as you can, you wouldn't want to live with something like that on your mind for the rest of your life.

Be safe, all those people out there are carrying some ones loved ones. One day it could be yours.

No different than my opinion of the operator of a four-wheeler consuming (food and/or drink) while driving. I really fail to see the point of this question, the driver claims he was "pre-occupied" when he spilled his drink. What does it matter what he was driving? The driver of a car could have killed an entire family just as easily.

pointless........doesn't detract from the responsibility of driver at fault.

Perhaps you should have READ the referenced story. It wasn't MSNBC that made that determination but:

It dose not matter what he was driving. His actions where wrong. it only became news because it was a big truck. if it had been a car it might have gotten 30 sec of air time. if that. The fact is. If while driving you drop/spill a drink ,food, drop a cigaret what ever. you should pull over and THEN deal with it.
